Haeundae Beach

There is an intersection where the city breaks into beach. Traffic turns two ways, curving into the landscape line of endless ocean. All the white people have migrated to the sandy shore, so early in the season. They tan in May smog, Koreans carry sun umbrellas.

We walk along the boardwalk. Stop to take pictures with soldiers and the navy. Take more with wall photos, check the schedule for the boats to the islands. Mechanic plastic baby-Beach Boys strum a soundtrack from the vendors.

The seagulls stand guard in lazy formation. The sky falls down, the clouds spill off the water and into office towers. We take the signal and stroll back to the city.
