Hanbok and drums

On our last day in the city, we took an escalator towards the clouds. From Shopping Street to Yongdusan Park, the green light glows overhead. The plot of land perched above the city used to be the only place trade with Japan was allowed.

There we stumbled upon a troop of Koreans in traditional hanbok dress, banging on their drums. In roundhouse circles they swung their limbs, swaying back and forth. The men bobbed masculine, force into the pound. The women craned swan necks gently, stretching painted grins.

We pushed our own necks up above the crowds, between the heads, hoping for a better view. Nods to all the cardboard characters, then back into the glow.
